Honours for Kenyan Eye Surgeon

Hon. Rtn. Mukesh Joshi was honored with the Hind Rattan Award (Jewel of India)

Dr. Mukesh Joshi medical director of Laser Eye Centre was honored with the Hind Rattan Award (Jewel of India) by the NRI welfare society in conjunction with the government of India on the eve of republic day of India 25th January 2012 for his Excellency in field of ophthalmology in:

Laser Vision Correction with the new technology the No-Cut No Touch C-Ten laser for the first time in AfricaLaser Assisted corneal transplant (CLAT) Cataract Extraction by Phaco-Emulsification.

His charitable work currently with the Rotary Club of Nairobi and previously with the Lions Club where his team have performed 14000 free cataract operations.

There are about 27 million Non-Residential Indian living globally (Indian Diaspora) and there is a NRI welfare society registered in Delhi. The society has been running for over 31 years so far Dr. Joshi is the first ophthalmologist to be honored like this for NRI community. Every year, NRI welfare society honor 30-35 NRI's in various fields.

Dr. Joshi's family roots are in East Africa and holding a British passport; he has lived and worked in East Africa for over 4 decades though he studied in India. His family has been in East Africa since four generations.

Mr. K.C Panth (Former defense minister of India) and justice Katchu (President of press council of India with past chief justice of supreme court of India) presenting the award to Dr. Joshi accompanied by his wife Mrs. Mira Joshi and Mr. Gurinder Singh (secretary of NRI welfare society).
