The primary responsibility of the Assistant Governor (AG) is to assist the District Governor (DG) with the administration of the designated clubs. By performing this critical function, the AG supports club effectiveness and by extension, district effectiveness. The AG is the DG’s immediate administrative partner on the ground. One hestitates to call it a celebration when the featured speakers are eight people whose lives were dramatically and negatively altered by the post-election violence that hit Kisumu after Dec. 29th. But one could call the event held in Kisumu on 10th May, a "celebration of appreciation!" The chief guest was DGE Kaushik Manek and his lovely wife AG Geeta. Directly across the street the Prime Minister Raila Odinga was addressing a crowd of thousands on his homecoming event! But in the small church Rotarians on the relief committee were congratulated and appreciated for the good work they have been doing to identify those impacted by post election violence and subsequent economic hardship. more... |

...and how Rotary helped me. I am Charles Otieno. I am a piki-piki (motorcycle-taxi) driver by profession. In 2007 I managed to get a loan to buy a new motorcycle which I intended to use to carry passengers in and around Kisumu city. I had been a boda-boda driver (bicycle taxi) previously and I saw greater opportunity to expand my income through a motorcycle. As time went on I was making 500 shillings per day (about 8 USD). From this I was able to pay my loan and support myself. I was doing quite well and in early December was able to finish my loan.
