BRITISH ROTARY DISTRICT 1040 LOOKS FOR COOPERATION WITH AFRICAN CLUBS

“We have to listen to local people, to local Rotarians, it is not enough just to send money for projects”. This reason gives the Incoming District Governor of District 1040 in Great Britain, Rotarian Roger Parcival for his trip to Rotary Clubs in Uganda and Ethiopia in a joint meeting of the Clubs Addis Ababa Bole and Central Mella. Rotarian Parcival will lead the District 1040 with 80 Rotary Clubs in the Rotary year 2010/11. He says his visit to Ugandan and Ethiopian clubs shall contribute to an better understanding between Africa and Europe and expand fellowship.

ROTARY CLUB IN ZIWAI IN THE MAKING

In the fast growing town of Ziwai, about 170 Kilometer south of Addis Ababa, an Rotary Club is emerging. Mid December 15 people met in the conference hall of the Municipality to discuss about founding a Rotary Club. Country Extension officer, Rotarian Yeshimebet and three other Rotarians from Addis Ababa met the potential Rotarians in Ziwai to give same examples of their Rotary practice and information about the Worldwide Rotary network and activities.

DONATION OF PROSTHETIC HANDS TO RECIPIENTS FROM THE RIFT VALLEY

RC Utumishi gives hope to amputees

The Nairobi Utumishi Rotary Club donated prosthetic hands to seven amputees, all recipients who lost their limb either through the recent post-election or domestic violence, job accidents or a condition called Osteomyelities. All recipients are from the Rift Valley of Kenya.

DAR ES SALAAM CLUBS RAISED USD 70000 FOR ENVIRONMENTAL PROJECTS

Dar es salaam, Sep 30, 2009: More than 500 Rotarians, friends and wellwishers participated in our first Dar Rotary Walk '09 on Sunday the 27th September 2009. The walk was flagged off as early as 7am and retired president Ali Hassan Mwinyi was our guest of honour. He walked the 8 kms at great pace. DGE Steve Mwanje travelled all the way from Uganda to walk with us on the day.

Wilson Kimele Naiyomah of “14 Cows for America” returns to Kenya for 9/11 observances as he prepares for studies as a Rotary World Peace Fellow

NAIROBI, Kenya (4 September 2009) – Wilson Kimele Naiyomah drew the international spotlight to his Maasai village in 2002, when tribal elders presented a herd of 14 cows to the people of the United States as a symbolic gesture of compassion and healing after hearing his firsthand account of the terrorist attack on New York City on 11 September, 2001.
