On-going and ‘signature’ projects

  • Kenya Rural Blindness Eradication – this Rotary Year, we will again hold two eye camps, each aiming for 300 cataract operations, totaling 600 cataract operations.
  • Rally for the Disabled (Sunshine Rally) – this project was initiated by PP Manu Chandaria in 1978 as a ‘day out’ for several schools for the disabled in Nairobi and its environs, attracting thousands of participants each year.
  • The IPOA Independent Policing Oversight Authority Awards – RCN has been their official partner since its inception and we will again this year participate.
  • Sleeping Children Around the World – Since 1991, in collaboration with the Canadian charity SCAW, we have distributed over 100,000 bed kits to children under the age of 12 years in various schools across the country! The project recognizes the importance of sleep in the mental and physical development of children. March 2018, 4,000 bed kits will be distributed estimated total cost of approximately Kshs. 15,000,000 (CAD $200,000). The bed kit contains a mattress, blanket, sleeping pajamas, a school bag and stationery.

What are Rotary projects?

The ‘Kenya Rural Blindness Eradication’ project is an example of effective and successful community projects by our club.

Rotary clubs participate in a broad range of humanitarian, intercultural and educational activities designed to improve the human condition.

Members of the Rotary Club of Nairobi – just like other Rotarians the world over – conduct projects to address today’s challenges including illiteracy, healthcare, disease, hunger, poverty, lack of clean water, youth development, job training and environmental concerns.

Rotary is a spearheading partner in the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, along with the World Health Organization,UNICEF, and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
